A Note on How RPG for Humanity Stores Data
RPG4H, also written RPG for Humanity, is a product of Jean Clair LLC, a New York limited liability company. Jean Clair LLC operates this service and the website at rpg4h.com. Clair Hur, founder of Jean Clair LLC, is the executive contact for this product and is reachable at clair@rpg4h.com.
You can play RPG for Humanity without creating an account. Your game is still saved, so a closed tab or a new phone does not wipe it.
Without an account. The first time you play, we create an anonymous account for you: a random identifier with no name or email attached. Your game progress is saved on our servers under that identifier. This includes your coins, scraps and other in-game items, the progress of your base and what you have built, the messages on your mission board, and your daily play allowance. Your recent exercise scores are also kept on your device for about 7 days.
If you add your email. Adding an email address attaches everything you have already earned to that email, so you can sign in on another device and carry on.
Anonymous accounts that are no longer used are deleted. If an anonymous account has no email attached, has had no activity for 30 days, and has never made a purchase, we delete it together with its saved progress and items. See Data Retention below.
Sending a game. A game you send to someone has to leave your device so the link can open on their phone. What happens to it is set out in The Notes You Write below.
The Notes You Write
A note is the most personal thing in this app, and it is the one thing here that belongs to two people rather than one. This section says exactly where it goes.
What a note is. The topic, the short answer you type, the nickname you enter for yourself and for the person you are sending to, and any line you leave for them.
If you do not have an account. Your notes are saved on our servers as well as in your browser, so a cleared cache does not destroy them. They are tied to a random identifier generated by your browser — not to your name, your email or any account. That identifier is the only key to them. If you clear your browser storage or move to a new phone, the notes remain on our servers but nothing connects them to you any more, and we cannot restore them: we have no way to tell which ones were yours. Creating an account replaces that key with your email address, and the notes you already made come with you.
When you send a game. The game also has to leave your device for the link to open on the other person’s phone. We store its contents — the topic, the words in the grid including your answer, and the nicknames you typed — on our servers, and give you a link containing a randomly generated code. Anyone who has that link can open the game, so treat it the way you would treat anything else you send in a message. We do not publish these links, list them, or make them searchable. The link stops working 30 days after it is created. This applies to the shared copy only; the note on your own device does not expire.
If you have an account. Your notes are also saved to your account, so they survive a lost phone or a new device. They are stored with row-level security enabled, which means each row can be read only by the account that created it — other members cannot read yours, even though the service shares one database. They are kept while your account is active, and deleted or anonymised when you delete your account.
How the other tiles are made. To build the alternatives shown beside your answer, we send the topic and your answer to an AI provider (Anthropic). We do not send your name, the other person’s name, your email address, or your account identifier. Under that provider’s API terms, text sent this way is not used to train its models.
If a note is sent back to you. When the other person answers, their answer is stored on the same record as yours so that you can both see the completed note. Their name appears only as the nickname one of you typed.
How long. Notes are kept for as long as you have an account, or — without one — for as long as the identifier in your browser still points at them. The share LINK is separate and stops working 30 days after it is created; the note itself does not expire.
What we never do. We do not sell notes, show them to anyone other than you and the person you sent them to, or use them for advertising.
Information We Collect
Game progress (everyone, with or without an account). As you play, we save your game progress on our servers under your account identifier, which is random if you have not added an email. This includes in-game currency and items (such as coins, scraps, and Bottles), the construction of your base and what you have built, the messages on your mission board, and your daily play allowance.
On-device data. Your browser also stores your settings (such as language and sound), your recent exercise scores (for about 7 days), and a copy of your progress so the game works quickly and offline.
Account information (only if you add it). If you add an email address or sign in with a provider such as Google, we collect your email address, and your name where the provider shares it, together with an authentication identifier. This is handled through our authentication provider, Supabase.
Payment information (only if you make a purchase or subscribe). One-time purchases and paid memberships are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number; Stripe handles payment details directly.
Gameplay analytics. We record how the game is used, for example when a round of exercises is started or finished, when a feature is opened, and when a play session ends, together with limited technical data such as device type, browser type, IP address, and language settings. We use this, through our analytics provider PostHog, to find problems and improve the game. We do not use it for advertising.
How We Use Information
We use information we collect to run the game, save your progress and items, send the reminders you allow (see Notifications below), improve the exercises and overall experience, analyze performance and usage, keep the service secure, process payments, and communicate important service updates.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data Retention
Anonymous accounts. Progress saved under an anonymous account is kept while you keep playing. If an anonymous account has no email attached, has had no activity for 30 days, and has never made a purchase, it is deleted automatically, together with its saved progress, in-game currency and items. Accounts with a purchase on record are never deleted this way.
Accounts with an email. Your progress and items are kept for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to comply with legal, tax, or security obligations.
On your device. Your recent exercise scores are kept on your device for about 7 days, after which older entries are removed automatically. Clearing your browser storage removes the on-device copy at any time.
Resetting the game. Using Reset in Settings erases your progress, in-game currency and items, both on your device and on our servers. It cannot be undone.
Cognitive-Practice Data
RPG for Humanity records how you perform in its exercises to build your progress map and personalize the experience. This information reflects in-game performance only.
RPG for Humanity is for general cognitive practice and entertainment. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice.
Authentication and Sign-In
RPG for Humanity creates an anonymous account when you first play, and lets you attach an email address or sign in through Google and other identity providers, with authentication handled by Supabase. We do not receive or store your provider password — only the account information necessary to identify your account and provide access.
Payments
One-time purchases and paid memberships are processed by Stripe. Your payment is handled directly by Stripe under its own terms and privacy policy. We receive confirmation of your purchase or subscription status but do not store full payment card details.
Third-Party Services
We rely on trusted third-party providers to operate RPG for Humanity, including services for authentication and database infrastructure (Supabase, hosted on Amazon Web Services), hosting, analytics (PostHog), payments (Stripe), and generating the alternative tiles shown beside your answer (Anthropic). These providers process information only as necessary to perform services on our behalf or support the operation of the platform.
Your Choices and Rights
Reset. You can erase your progress, in-game currency and items at any time with Reset in Settings. This removes them from your device and from our servers.
Access and deletion. You may request a copy of your information or deletion of your account and its data by contacting us at clair@rpg4h.com.
Notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
Notifications
If you allow it, RPG for Humanity may send notifications to remind you about the game, for example that your pets are hungry or that new orders are ready. We ask for your permission first, and nothing is sent unless you agree.
We keep reminders to a small number each day, and missing one never costs you anything in the game. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings, and the game works the same without them.
Children's Privacy
RPG for Humanity is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information using industry-standard practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
